In the exitement and anticipation of bringing your new kitten home, it may not cross your mind to also remember the many potential hazards within your home. Kittens can find their way into the smallest of spaces, for instance under wardrobes, chests of drawers, hi-fi units, in fact almost anywhere.
I had a 'phone call recently from a lady who was very upset, it seems her kitten had been fast asleep in her lounge when a very loud neighbour came in and slammed the lounge door, the poor kitten, terrified, made for the fireplace at extraordinary speed. This lady just managed to grab the kitten's tail as it was disappearing up the chimney.
As I said, anything and everything should be viewed as a potential hazard - you never know.
Some cat toys, although bought in good faith, can be dangerous. Watch out for anything containing small bells, they may sound nice, but if stood on (especially plastic balls), the bell, and the fragments of plastic are lethal as they could be swallowed.
Toys dangling from a rod are also popular, but again beware, never leave them lying around where your kitten can gain access to it, if the toy is attached with string or elastic your kitten could become entangled, and I shudder to think of the consequences.

Fluffy feathers on toys can also pose a danger, little razor sharp teeth shred feathers in minutes, these can get wrapped around teeth, or worse, swallowed.
As a general rule I work on the theory that if a toy would be safe for a small baby, then it should be safe for a kitten.
Before you take your kitten home, please make sure you have the following items:-
-
Bed.
-
Food and water bowls. (preferably not plastic).
-
Comb and brush.
-
Scratching post, upright or flat (this will save your furniture).
-
Litter scoop.
-
Preferably two littter trays. (my Ragdolls like to do No two's in one and urinate in another).
-
Bed.
-
You will be provided with a bag of Worlds Best Cat Litter, but I do strongly suggest you purchase some of the same, as it is excellent cat litter. By providing continuity with the same brand it should help prevent any accidents.
If you have other pets in your home, and think they may be upset by the new arival, then I would advise purchasing Felliway from your vet, this is available in the plug-in, or a spray, it is thought to help considerabely towards relieving stress in cats.
Please Note:- A kitten will not be sold to anyone who would leave it for long periods on it's own.
